Casey Reibelt earns Liberty A-League Referee of the Year honour again ahead of Grand Final

After a standout season, Casey Reibelt has taken out the 2023-24 Liberty A-League Women Referee of the Year award while she will also officiate Saturday’s Grand Final between Melbourne City and Sydney FC.

This is the fourth time Reibelt has won the Liberty A-League Women Referee of the Year award following a stellar 2023-24 season.

The award adds to an already incredible career for Reibelt who has featured in both the Isuzu UTE A-League Men and Liberty A-League Women competitions since 2008.

Reibelt’s journey in the game has seen her officiate at both a domestic and international level, including the FIFA Women’s World Cup in both 2019 and 2023. In November of 2023, Reibelt’s also became the first female to referee in the AFC Champions League, which marked a significant stride in diversity and representation within football officiating.

Reibelt’s has also been acknowledged for an incredible 2023-24 season by being selected to referee the 2024 Liberty A-League Women Grand Final on Saturday 4 May, alongside Emma Kocbek and Maggie Price.

The Liberty A-League Women Referee of the Year is awarded to the referee who is judged as the best referee for the Liberty A-League Women regular season, by Football Australia Head of Referees, Nathan Magill, and A-Leagues Commissioner, Nick Garcia.

A-Leagues Commissioner, Nick Garcia said: “Casey continues to set the benchmark for referees in the Liberty A-League Women and is a fantastic role model for aspiring female referees to shine on the national and international stage.

“We congratulate Casey on a fantastic season of refereeing and her fourth Referee of
the Year award. We look forward to having her officiate the Liberty A-League Women
Grand Final this weekend.”

Football Australia Head of Referees, Nathan Magill said: “The selection of Saturday’s
Liberty A-League Women’s Grand Final officiating team is acknowledgment of their consistent performances throughout this season, particularly for Casey, who has had an exceptional 12 months both domestically and internationally, including being the first Australian woman to referee an AFC Champions League fixture.

“Casey represented Australia during the 2023 FIFA Women’s World Cup, refereeing two matches, and has upheld the lofty standards of officiating both in the domestic leagues plus on the international stage ever since. It is only appropriate that Casey has been named the Liberty A-League Women Referee of the Year in recognition of her outstanding efforts this season.

“Football Australia along with the Referees Committee would like to extend our thanks and gratitude to the entire match officials panel for their commitment and professionalism throughout the 2023-24 season and wish those appointed for Saturday’s grand final all the best of luck for the match,” Magill concluded.

Reibelt will be presented with her award at the conclusion of the 2024 Liberty A- League Women Grand Final between Melbourne City and Sydney FC at AAMI Park.
